LEFT-Tower
3 at the downtown Flatonia park with SP caboose 4743. The rail pavilion
is to the right about a quarter mile across the diamond. RIGHT-An eastbound UP aggregate train starts to pass the park at 8:55 a.m. May 30 on the UP's Sunset line.
UP
9769 heads the long train. I had just missed a west-southbound KCS
mixed train 15 minutes before this one. This was a very long aggregate
train.
LEFT-They are working on these road crossings at the famous rail intersection. RIGHT-Looking to the west from Flatonia.
LEFT-The photo pavilion is to the right across the tracks.
LEFT-This
fuel truck had to back out and take another route because one of the
road crossings was being worked on. RIGHT-Looking west.
LEFT-This crossing had been taken out, but a new one will be put in. RIGHT-Another perspective.
LEFT-A glove merging with the dirt right next to the pavilion.
RIGHT-UP 8401 heads an eastbound intermodal at 10:22 a.m.
LEFT-Sunflowers and containers. RIGHT-UP 4769 arrives at the pavilion from the north at 10:33 a.m.
RIGHT-Taken from the pavilion.
KCS
Belle 4105 heads an almost solid stirng of the new black Belle hoppers
from the east at 11:36 a.m. It will head south at the diamond.
LEFT-DPU-KCS
4606. As one photo site might say....'too much clutter' but clutter is
part of the world at times. RIGHT-KCS 4548 followed the previous KCS
train at 12:12 p.m. May 30.
RIGHT-LEFT-Downtown
Flatonia now has 'quiet' crossings. While at the pavilion, those KCS
trains snuck up on me from the east because they didn't have to blow
horns at these crossings.It's
now Sunday, May 31 and this KCS train headed by KCS 4604 is waiting for
a signal at 10:18 a.m. It's heading north-east, about to go arond the
curve and join the Sunset route. The person largely responsible for
getting the Photo Pavilion built, Tommy Schultz, was with me at the
pavilion at this time.
Another string of Belle hoppers.
A
UP intermodal from the north is about to curve next to the pavilion at
12:35 p.m. May 31. I had left to get something to eat, but when I
headed north on Texas 95 and crossed the overpass over the UP line
north of town, I saw a headlight in the distance. I hurried back to the
pavilion and beat the tran by only 3 minutes. The train was headed by UP 4131.
Tommy.
