For the second time in the last 3 days, Amtrak's southbound Texas Eagle 21 of Monday, January 6, 2014 was hours late into Little Rock, Arkansas. It finally got here at 2:21 p.m., eleven and a half hours late. The cause again was  cold weather and frozen switches in Missouri and Illinois. It was 16 degrees with a wind chill of minus 3 while I was at the station. Here are some photos I took at Union Station while passengers waited.

One of the station's security personnel was here.

The security man took me where this old St. Louis, Iron Mountain & Southern Railway Co. safe is stored.  It's original to Union Station. StLIM&S Rwy Co became the Missouri Pacific, now part of Union Pacific. Union Station is privately owned, but the owner, Bailey Corporation, John Bailey, kept some railroad artifacts.

Two girls waiting to get on the train were petting this deserted puppy that someone who was picking up a passenger brought inside the waiting room.  The girl's mothers gave me permission to take the photo.

This girl was very excited to be going on a train ride, and petting a puppy too.

Status board.

Passengers lining up to board at 1:58 p.m.

Richard Finch, one of the station agents who's been here over 20 years, is sanding icy spots at 2:00 p.m. The station is normally open in the daytime only on Mondays, so he would have been here regardless of the train.

No. 21 arriving at 2:21 p.m. taken from inside the station for a change.

It was too cold and windy to wait outside, so everyone waited until passengers leaving the train at Little Rock could get off. Wind chill was -3 degrees, temperature 16.

I'm outside now.

Getting on and off the train at 2:24 p.m.

Baggage being loaded and taken off.

Here's Richard handling the baggage.

Locomotive 112 led the Eagle today.

Notice plow damage and ice on the plow.

Pulling out at 2:34 p.m.
