Amtrak's Texas Eagle No. 22 northbound at Little Rock Saturday night, September 1, 2012. What's interesting to me was a small group of college-age students who rode the train from Arkadelphia, Arkansas (about an hour south of Little Rock) to Little Rock, where they were picked up by friends so one person in the group could celebrate his birthday in Little Rock's River Market district without having to drive there. After their birthday celebration, they were taken back to the station to catch southbound Eagle No. 21 back to Arkadelphia, where someone there picked up the group. Tonight Amtrak was used as a designated driver! It turns out that both 22 and 21 were on time,  but had 22 been 2 hours late like a couple of nights ago, this idea would not have worked. Lucky.

Amtrak's Texas Eagle No. 22 arriving at 11:38 p.m.

This group of college-age students rode the Eagle No. 22 from Arkadelphia, Arkansas (about an hour south of Little Rock) to Little Rock to celebrate one guy's birthday in the River Market. There were cars waiting for them to take them downtown. It was a quarter to midnight and they would have their party at one of the many clubs downtown then catch Eagle No. 21 back to Arkadelphia at 3 a.m. with someone picking them up at the Arkadelphia station about 4 a.m. In this case, Amtrak was their designated driver. On this night, anyway, both Eagles were on time. Had 22 been late by 2 hours as it was a couple of nights ago, this would not have worked.

Leaving at 11:48 p.m.

A little artsy photo of the tracks.
