Friday and Saturday, October 17 and 18, 2014 streetcars and crowds in Little Rock and North Little Rock with fans here for the October 18 football game between the Arkansas Razorbacks and Georgia Bulldogs. There was also a concert at Riverfront Park Friday night in the River Market given by Justin Moore. And 'Five Finger Death Punch & VolBeat' was at Verizon Arena in North Little Rock at the same time. I took the streetcar to the events and will show scenes from those rides, as well as  some shots of butterflies and flowers. This will give you an idea what it's like in Little Rock's River Market on some days.  Here are some photos:

Waiting for the streetcar in North Little Rock at 5:11 p.m. Friday, October 17.

Ready to get on the streetcar at 5:19 p.m.

On the Main Street bridge over the Arkansas River heading south from North Little Rock to Little Rock.

5:33 p.m. Friday Oct 17 in the River Market District. Those cars ahead in the right lane are on the tracks and I don't think I'd want to be a streetcar driver here on busy days. Cars parked on the side have to stay inside the white line or be towed.

St Vincent and President Clinton Streets in the heart of the District. Sony Williams Steak Room is to the right. Very expensive, but good.

South on River Market Drive.

Next to the tracks on the sidewalk.

Looking west on Clinton Avenue/Markham Street.

5:45 p.m. There were fans of both the Arkansas Razorbacks and Georgia Bulldogs here.

This 'Mime' has been living here since he relocated from New Orleans after the 2005 Hurricane Katrina. He ways he travels back to New Orleans every few weeks and works there as well as here. New Orleans is about a 9 hour drive from Little Rock.

People lining up for the Justin Moore concert, 5:55 p.m.

The former Missouri Pacific RR Junction Bridge was made a walking bridge a few years ago with the drawbridge permanently up so barges can go under. There's an elevator or stairs to the bridge deck.

River Trail information.

A colorful butterfly in the park, looks like a Monarch. They're migrating south this time of year.

Notice the blues, oranges and whites on its wings.

The Interstate 30 bridge.

7:42 p.m. and night has fallen. You can see the streetcar to the left. They run until midnight on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Posing for a picture.

They wanted me to get a photo.

Georgia Bulldogs fans.

Very active part of town.

Horse drawn carriages run most weekends. You can rent them.

The street is closed to cars due to anticipated crowds.

This place has been here for many years.

Another horse and carriage.

The Junction Bridge lit up with colorful LED lights.

8:28 p.m. waiting on a streetcar.

Reflection of me taking a picture of the colorful Junction bridge reflected in the Arkansas River, from the streetcar.

Nor it's Saturday, October 18, game day, at 10:42 a.m. in North Little Rock, waiting for the streetcar to take me downtown again.

Going south toward Little Rock with the city in the background, crossing the Main Street Bridge over the Arkansas River. The replica streetcars weight 50,000 pounds but the Corps of Engineers and others certified that running them on the side of the bridge like this was no problem.

Waiting for Big Whiskeys to open about 11 a.m.

11:03 a.m. in front of the Flying Saucer beer emporium.

See how close the mirror of this truck comes to the streetcar? Having to drive the streetcar here would drive me nuts.

A yellow moth.

Closeup of the head of a moth.

Birds over the Arkansas River.

USS Razorback submarine has been here for almost 10 years and is open for tours at times. It was at Tokyo Bay during the surrender of Japan in 1945.

You can see a streetcar on the Main Street bridge to the left with the Junction Bridge on the right. Just for your information, the Arkansas River starts in Colorado and runs to the Mississippi River south of Memphis, over 1.400 miles. It is navigable and several barges a day can use it all the way north to Tulsa.

A history of Little Rock, part 1. Part 2 is below.

Part 2.

A red leaf in the sidewalk, a sure sign of Fall.

Getting ready to go home, I got on the streetcar here in the River Market and rode to my car in the free parking lot in North Little Rock, 1:23 p.m.

These two ladies wanted me to take their picture.

The streetcars go the Clinton Library and then head north back to North Little Rock. The red building on the left is the former Rock Island RR Choctaw Route passenger terminal, used now as a school, part of  the Clinton Museum.

Going north across the river. The boy is pointing to the submarine.

Getting off the North Little Rock.
