I was told by a friend that there was a Red Tailed Hawk in downtown Little Rock that had a nest in a tree on Gaines Street. The nest was vacant but the baby hawk had flown to the top of a neighboring building. The baby hawk was about 3 months old and you can see the white fuzz on it's legs. The mother hawk had brought the little one another bird to eat and I have some scenes of him eating his feast. I didn't see the mother hawk until my last couple of pictures when she landed on the sidewalk across the street from me, then I got a photo of her flying away with the red tail very visible and wings spread. Here are some photos, taken with my Nikon D5200 DSLR camera with a 18 to 300 mm zoom lens, using a shutter speed of 1/500th second to slow the action.

Here is the mother hawk flying away from the sidewalk.

Here's the baby hawk, estimated to be 3 months old.

The hawk's large nest.

Baby hawk. Note the white fuzz on the legs.

Picking up the hapless bird to eat, which his mother brought to him earlier (I wasn't there when she did that).

Taking off, still holding the bird.

Beginning to tear his food apart.

Stretching his feast like a rubber band.

Baby spreading his wings.

Ready to take off.

Flying a short distance to another part of the roof.

Beautiful bird.

Here is the mother hawk on the sidewalk. She was very elusive.

Flying away.

I think this is the mother hawk in the tree close to the nest.
