The
Rohwer Japanese-American Relocation Center monuments and cemetery in
Rohwer, Arkansas, about 2 1/2 hours southeast of Little Rock, in Desha
County. The only remaining building on this site is a tall, brick
crematory smokestack. Shown are the monuments and markers, plus a
couple of Japanese-American gravesites. The local people told me that
there are occasional Japanese-American tours and reunions at this site,
which is located in the middle of a large cotton field.
The photos were taken on Friday, November 7, 2008.
A
dirt road leads to the site from Arkansas Highway 1, between Kelso and
Rohwer. You cross an abandoned railroad track and drive about a quater
mile.
