According to a good source from UP, UP contracted with EMD to convert 10 SD60Ms into SD59M-2s. SD59M-2: SD = Special Duty (as it always has), 59 = 3000 HP (from a 12-cylinder 710 prime mover), M = Safety Cab, -2 = EPA Tier 2 compliant.  The work is being done at EMD's London, Ontario plant. Repainting will be done at NLR. These have new flared radiators and are more eco-friendly. Here are a few shots of two of them in the North Little Rock yards on July 11, 2010.
