Tower 55, a major railroad intersection in Fort Worth, Texas, was undergoing a significant upgrade in the summer of 2014. These photos were taken on July 31, 2014 as I was visiting a friend who works at the Intermodal Transportation Center. He's a volunteer for Amtrak and helps handle/direct all the passengers. We had permission to be here. The work is supposed to be finished by September 3. At least that's when Amtrak's Texas Eagles are supposed stop terminating in Fort Worth and continue along their normal route to San Antonio. Right now they can't get through the Tower 55 construction.

I'm not an expert on Tower 55 and all the construction, so anyone in Fort Worth that has more information, contact me at the addresses at the end of this webpage and I'll update my information. Thanks. - Ken Ziegenbein-alias ArkansasRailroader.

Taken from the south end of the Intermodal Transportation Center's platform looking south. The red brick buildings to the right are former Santa Fe facilities, including the old Santa Fe passenger station. University of Texas at Arlington now uses the building on the right. The Amtrak train is Texas Eagle no. 22, all set for the next days' departure. It will pull into the station platform the next afternoon and I will get on the last sleeper for my trip back to Little Rock.

Lowering concrete ties.

Looking east from the platform. I was told that the far track is new, put in as part of the Tower 55 project.

Looking south toward the famous highway 'mixmaster' which covers the railroads that cross here.

Looking east toward a BNSF freight, which will pass through the Tower 55 complex later. We were surprised that UP 1982 and in the consist.

Looking east again.

A BNSF freight passing Tower 55.

Amazing mixture of rails and highways in south Fort Worth. Hopefully, the new upgrades and construction will alleviate all the train delays.

BNSF 4157, 4:00 p.m. July 31. My 18-300 MM lens helped.
