National Train Day, May 10, 2014. I photographed trains at Little Rock and then drove north to Hoxie, Arkansas and got lots of trains there. Hoxie is about 2 hours north of Little Rock in northeast Arkansas and is where the BNSF Thayer Sub crosses the UP Hoxie Sub, both busy lines. UP's line runs north-south and BNSF's runs east-west at the crossing in Hoxie. I caught 7 trains in Hoxie in 1-1/2 hours, between 5:28 p.m. and 6:55 p.m., 4 BNSF and 3 UP, then on my way home I caught 3 more UP trains, for a total of 10 trains on my trip to Hoxie.  I didn't leave Little Rock until 3 p.m. Before I went to Hoxie,  I got some Train Day trains at my usual place, Union Station and in North Little Rock. Overall today, there were locomotives having 5 different roadnames: UP, BNSF, CSXT, NS, CSXT and HLCX. UP Rio Grande heritage locomotive 1989 was in North Little Rock.

Locomotives today: BNSF 8852, 5771, 8843, 5057, 1068, 8221, 8788, 9394, 5739, 6176, 9053, 8221, 4047, 7078, 7154 *** UP 1989, 4141 (tarped), 4653, 5036, 3877, 4820, 8811, 7608, 5590, 4370, 9354, 3973 *** CSXT 7526 *** NS 9854 *** HLCX 3859.

It's now 5:20 p.m. and I'm in Hoxie, Arkansas at the crossing of the BNSF Thayer Sub and UP Hoxie Sub. The crossing gates here are protecting the BNSF, which runs east-west at this point. The north-south track to the left is the UP's Hoxie Sub. Amtrak's Texas Eagles run through here on this sub.

My first train at Hoxie today was led by BNSF 8852 westbound at 5:28 p.m.

UP 7608. Afternoon sun gives UP's trains good lighting. On the other side of the road (Hwy 367) is a vacant lot where you can view the trains too, but the weeds were so high, you could barely see UP's trains.

Reflection of the train in this vacant business.

Looking north.

This a a view from the other (south) side of BNSF's tracks.

Near Alicia, AR another northbound UP train, 7:18 p.m. Couldn't see the number.

UP 3973, 7:29 p.m. near Swifton. My last train shot of the day. Although Hoxie was very active, the 2-hour drive there and 2-hours back is a little long for me to do this very often. But National Train Day was a good excuse. AARAS-09
