Trains
at Brinkley, Arkansas, Saturday January 2, 2010. It was cold today,
never getting above freezing, plus it was windy. The Brinkley Depot
Museum was also chilly inside and with such high ceilings in the
100-year-old depot, the heating bills this time of year are over $1,000
a month.
Included today: 1) UP 7783, 5301, 4644, 4841 2) CN 2629, 5726 3) Frozen flooded field behind the Brinkley depot 4) Snow on tank car 5) Cold secretary
LEFT-The
flooded field behind the depot museum had a thin layer of ice as of 9
a.m. If temperatures fall into the teens much of next week, this ice
will get more solid since the water is not that deep. But no, I won't
try to ice skate :-) RIGHT-UP
7783 on the Brinkley Sub (former Rock Island to Memphis) ready to
curve left and merge with the Jonesboro Sub at 10:59 a.m.
LEFT-This train was pulling baretables and had plenty of power. RIGHT-UP 7783 and 5301.
LEFT-Our
secretary, Terri, warming her hands on the portable heater. The
building's central heat works, but does not warm the office too good
since it has the bay windows. RIGHT-UP 4644, 11:40 a.m.
LEFT-UP 4841, 11:52 a.m. RIGHT-CN 2629 and 5726, 2:34 p.m.
LEFT-White snow on a black tank. RIGHT-Tour of 8 arrived about 3 p.m. These kids were from Monroe, Arkansas.
LEFT-Museum
Director Bill Sayger showing the group the Monroe, Arkansas depot,
which was moved here in 2003. Monroe, Arkansas is 15 miles south of
Brinkley on the abandoned Missouri Pacific. RIGHT-Clouds moved in about 3:30.
