A windy and cold morning at Union Station in Little Rock, AR on Friday, January 3, 2014. It was 17 degrees when I got there at 3:30 a.m. and I got photos of several trains, including the southbound Amtrak Texas Eagle and the MFWNL freight which had a varied locomotive consist (thanks for the heads up on Facebook from Charlie Chambers about this freight.)

See what I would have missed if I'd slept in late? One of my MKT green hoppers, MKT 545. I need to work on the white balance adjustments. The platform lights give off warm, orange saturated colors and I try to adjust. At least the lights are bright enough to illuminate all 3 tracks.

DRGW 10037 Rio Grande hopper.

I took a break to get breakfast at Ashley's restaurant inside the 100+ year old renovated Capital Hotel just a few blocks from the station. This Christmas Tree was voted by Forbes Magazine to be in the top 10 display trees in the country (it came in number 7). Tipton Hurst will take this tree down later in the day.

Heading back to the station at 7:40 a.m. You are looking west and can see Union Station and the streetcar tracks.

Missed the beginning of this train, but lucky me, I found another Katy red gondola, MKT 16177 at 7:42 a.m.

This was seen earlier, now it's heading back  west, UP 2003, former Cotton Belt, at 8:43 a.m.
