Here's a few photos of streetcars and one train in Little Rock, AR on Wednesday, Feb 15, 2012. I also included a photo of one of the blue men after I and several others went to the Blue Man Group performance in Little Rock in the evening. Plus a bird-railfan looking at a departing NS-led train at Union Station. Plus news details that Norfolk Southern will be painting 18 locomotives in various heritage livery and the tentative schedule of UP 844's 150th Anniversary Steam Excursion called the Shiloh Limited that will run through Northeast Arkansas to Marion carrying numerous Civil War actors on their way to the Shiloh Battlefield in Tennessee. The Civil War actors and Civil War cannons will move by bus from Marion to Shiloh then the train will eventually come to North Little Rock via the Brinkley and Jonesboro Subs. This train will run between March 22 and 30.

Included:
1) Little Rock streetcar 411
2) NS 9478, 8337
3) UP 3816, 4833
4) Southern boxcar 523567 with NO real graffiti, built 2-71
5) Mockingbird 'railfan'
6) ANR 309 Angelina & Neches River Railroad boxcar
7) SP 355187, 355249 woodchip cars, built 3-75
8) DOWX 71265 rusty tankcar
9) AM 2402 boxcar hauled on flatcar ITTX 931277
10) Daffodils
11) Cat
12) Wrecked auto on trailer
13) UP 844 Shiloh Limited schedule March 22-30, 2012
14) NS news release about painting 18 locomotives in heritage livery

I went to an interesting performance of the Blue Man Group at Robinson Center in Little Rock on February 15. Here is one of the performers posing after it was over. I noted that this group will be in Texas in a few days in San Antonio, College Station and Tyler.

One of the Blue Line streetcars at the public library stop on 2nd Street in Little Rock, February 15 at 2:31 p.m. It was returning from its stop at the Clinton Library. Note the signs for Interstate 30 in the upper right. In case you didn't know it, I-30 begins here and ends in Fort Worth.

Going east on 2nd Street. Yes, there were a few passenger onboard even on this dismal, cold day. It also stops at the downtown hotel district, which has the Capital Hotel and Peabody, among others. The streetcars are powered by the overhead 600 volt wire, which gets its electricity using the system's own power supplies (one generator is in Little Rock and one in North Little Rock at the Trolley Barn).

At Union Station at 2:46 p.m.

NS 9478, 2:58 p.m. northbound.

NS 9478 and 8337 stopped for a red signal at 2:59 p.m.

Since this train was headed by Norfolk Southern locomotives, I thought I'd add an interesting development regarding the NS' plans to paint up to 18 of its locomotive in heritage livery. Here's what I found online from the Trains Magazine Newswire (http://trn.trains.com/en/Railroad%20News/News%20Wire/2012/02/Norfolk%20Southern%20to%20debut%20heritage%20fleet.aspx):

"NORFOLK, Va. — To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Norfolk & Western/Southern merger in 1982, Norfolk Southern plans to honor many of the railroads that make up the present day NS system. As Union Pacific did a half-decade ago, NS plans to create a fleet of heritage locomotives, though NS’s plans are bigger: 18 units honoring a wide variety of predecessor roads.
The locomotives will be 10 SD70ACes on order from EMD that are being constructed at its Muncie, Ind., plant, and eight ES44ACs from an upcoming order for 25 units from GE. While EMD will paint all 10 heritage units in-house, NS forces will paint the eight GEs. The railroad’s Altoona, Pa., shop will paint five, while the Chattanooga, Tenn., shop will handle three heritage units.
The 18 predecessor railroads selected for heritage paint are:
• Central of Georgia
• Conrail
• Erie
• Erie Lackawanna
• Lehigh Valley (red)
• New Haven (not definite yet)
• New York Central
• Nickel Plate Road
• Norfolk & Western (blue)
• Penn Central
• Pennsylvania (Tuscan Red)
• Pittsburgh & West Virginia
• Reading
• Savannah & Atlanta
• Southern
• Tennessee, Alabama & Georgia
• Virginian
• Wabash
NS plans to recreate the paint schemes as accurately as possible. By contrast, UP used the old railroads’ logos and colors, but created new interpretations on the old liveries."

UP 3816 and 4833 stopped for signal, 3:00 p.m.

Rare sight...an original Southern "Gives A Green Light To Innovations" boxcar 523567 with no real graffiti (just a tiny bit below the 35). It was built in February 1971.

Built date on side of the Southern boxcar.

Me and my pal Mockingbird watching trains. Guess he's a railfan too....lol.

Angelina & Neches River Railroad boxcar ANR 309.

Southern Pacific woodchip car SP 355187, built 3-75.

Another Southern Pacific woodchip car, SP 355249.

Half rusty tank car DOWX 71265.

AM 2402 boxcar on top of ITTX 931277 flatcar.

The curvy welded rail you see next to the tracks is supposed to be installed the last week of February.

Daffodils in bloom in my front yard.

Neighborhood cat.

I saw this on February 16 while waiting for a red light. I hope the drivers of this wrecked car made it through the wreck in one piece. You never know how quickly lives can be changed.

One more thing I thought I'd add to this 'more information than normal' webpage is the possible schedule of the upcoming Union Pacific 844 steam excursion at the end of March and early April this year, celebrating the 150th anniversary of the UP by hauling Civil War re-enactors to Marion, Arkansas, where they will be bused to the Civil War Battlefield at Shiloh, Tennessee. This train will move through northeast Arkansas and eventually head from Marion to North Little Rock in early April, 2012. Here's the tentative schedule and train ID's as relayed by Brad Williams from the Heritage Locomotives Yahoo Group:
