Friday, February 27, 2009 at Little Rock, Arkansas. It was a warm, then cool day, with clouds, sun and rain. Lots of trains today, but I just included the 'best of.'  Of special interest was a one-car train hauling a large transformer and a Kansas City Southern 'Belle' unit. Included today:

1) CSX 643
2) Heavy-haul flat KRL 45833
3) UP4097, 8407
4) CN 5707, 2699
5) SSW/UP 2094
6) KCS Belle 4696

LEFT-CSX 643 leads a lone heavy-haul flatcar (KRL
45833) containing a transformer on its way to Indiana at 12:44 p.m.  It was stopped here, waiting for a signal. The escort of the transformer was riding the cab, and got off here to rent a car to follow the load to Indiana, north of Indianapolis. RIGHT-The escort of the transformer is to the left.

LEFT-The escort of the transformer is inspecting the load before he rents a car to follow it to Indiana. Although I don't know this for sure, I assume this train was given priority handling. RIGHT-KRL 45833

LEFT-Viewed from the top of the spiral staircase at Union Station. RIGHT-UP 4097, 1:03 p.m. with some CN units.

LEFT-CN 5707 and 2699. RIGHT-Lots of flats.

Another train arrives at 1:22 p.m. This one is the daily Pine Bluff local, the YNL75, which usually has lots of locomotives, some being transferred, some running. This consist had a surprise, non-UP locomotive in it. The boy and his father are frequent train watchers here. UP 8407 leads the train.

Former Cotton Belt locomotive, now numbered UP 2094, followed by KCS Belle 4696. The old and the new.
