GMTX 2681 Operation Lifesaver, May 24.

UP 1900, ex Rio Grande. This unit has been in Texas recently and used to be in North Little Rock on yard jobs. I don't know what's it's doing in North Little Rock now. It worked on yard job YNL75-25 yesterday. Hopefully it does not get repainted!

Colorful combination of locomotives. UP 1900 is hooked to GMTX 2296 on the next track over from GMTX 2681.

This is 2nd Street in Little Rock. The boxcars are on a spur track from UP's Biddle Yard and they hold newsprint paper for the daily Arkansas Democrat-Gazette newspaper's printing facilities, which are in the buildings next to the boxcars. The tracks to the right (one in the left lane and one in the right) belong to the streetcars of the Central Arkansas Transit Authority. It's fun to ride the streetcars past an active railroad with freight cars. These tracks go to Heifer International and the Clinton Presidential Library. I'm looking to the east. The UP spur track curves to the right behind me and heads to Biddle Yard. UP bring the paper here every few days with a single locomotive. Unless someone tells me when they are delivered and picked up, it's almost impossible to catch one.

Another view. The track is in good shape for such little traffic. I assume it once belonged to Rock Island.

The two boxcars happened to be Canadian Pacific red boxcars complete with the Beaver emblem!

CP 220165 red Canadian Pacific boxcar filled with newsprint.

Closeup of the emblem/trademark. These cars were built relatively recently, in November 2001.

1881.

CP 200019 boxcar.

The overpass is Interstate 30, which begins in North Little Rock and ends in Fort Worth, Texas.

More details on the cars.
