Sunday, July 18, 2010 at Union Station in Little Rock, Arkansas. Included today is a rare sighting of two Ashley Drew & Northern boxcars hooked together on a train. The ADN has been out of business many years and these cars can still be seen around UP's system. Also seen today in a consist were two newly renovated and painted SD40-2 locomotives, Nos. 1553 and 1556 and a green MKT gondola. It was a bright, clear day with temperatures only in the upper 80s.

LEFT-Ferromex 4609 and UP 8553, 9:20 a.m. This train stopped here, waiting for a southbound to pass. RIGHT-Here's the YNL-75 local to Pine Bluff with 8 locomotives (this train always has many locomotives which are being transfered to Pine Bluff, most not running). It's headed by UP 4666.

RIGHT-Green MKT gondola MKT 16513. These are rarer than the red gondolas and don't hold the green color as well as the red ones do.

LEFT-The Pine Bluff local, YNL-75, had 117 cars and was 6,615 feet long. I've seen it with 170 cars. The Ferromex train left right after this northbound. LEFT-UP 2285, 10:27 a.m. RIGHT-UP 2420 followed by newly overhauled and painted SD40-2's UP 1553 and 1556. I understand they are on break-in runs.


LEFT-UP 1556 and 1553....looking sharp in the bright sun. RIGHT-UP 1539 at 10:40 a.m. UP 1539 and 1540 are GP40's (4-axle) which were also overhauled and repainted a few months ago.
