LEFT-Cold front clouds looking north at 6:55 a.m. taken from my car on I-40 on my way to Brinkley. Believe it or not, there was not another car in sight at this time. I was near Hazen, Arkansas, halfway to Brinkley in eastern Arkansas. RIGHT-Note the small roll cloud. The winds shifted and picked up speed when this cloud was overhead.

LEFT-This southbound intermodal was just leaving  when I arrived at the depot at 7:25 a.m., train number 1 for the day. RIGHT-Winds were starting to switch to the north at 7:33 a.m.

LEFT-Here's that roll cloud I took a picture of earlier on I-40. It was moving south, left to right. Light rain was starting and winds were picking up.

LEFT-UP 9380 and 5017, 7:53 a.m., train number 2 for the day. RIGHT-I used my camera flash to get this shot of a crape myrtle with the dark clouds in the background.

LEFT-Front of the Brinkley Depot Museum. RIGHT-There was a small farmer's market going on. They had tomatoes and okra.

LEFT-10:03 a.m. and the bottom fell out of the clouds. RIGHT-Headlight of a distant train at 10:17 a.m. on the Jonesboro Sub (one train that runs on this former Cotton Belt line each day is UP's YCHO intermodal that runs from Chicago to Houston, Texas). This is at Milepost 199.

LEFT-UP 7841 and CSX 8437, 10:20 a.m., train number 3 for the day. RIGHT-CSX 8437. This train had a good mix of freight cars, starting with autoracks.

LEFT-Flats. RIGHT-CSXT 180700 hi-cube boxcar with Chessie, probably with auto parts.

LEFT-Container cars. RIGHT-The underside of a grasshopper on the window.

LEFT-Flags were at half-staff in memory of the victims of 9/11. RIGHT-NS 7534 and 7523 in the rain at 10:35 a.m., train number 4 today.

LEFT-NS 7523. RIGHT-SOO boxcar 613003 (not sure of this number)

LEFT-UP 4539 and 5171, 12:05 p.m., train number 5. RIGHT-I think this was the YCHO intermodal. The clouds were moving out.

LEFT-A train in the distance on the Brinkley Sub (former Rock Island) at 12:07 p.m.. This will be an intermodal from Marion, Arkansas, probably on its way to Long Beach or Los Angeles. Marion has UP's intermodal yard, which is just across the Mississippi River from Memphis. RIGHT-The Brinkley Sub will merge with the Jonesboro Sub a few miles south of Brinkley. Note the vivid blue skies after the rain.

LEFT-CSX 4842, 12:11 p.m. RIGHT-CSX 4842 and 4506.

LEFT-UP 5004 and NS 6583. This is train number 6 for the day.

LEFT-This was a very long container train. RIGHT-Taken from the former ticket office of the depot at 12:18 p.m. The train took 7 minutes to pass, although it was going slow due to the curve.

LEFT-Another southbound on the Jonesboro Sub at 12:24 p.m., train number 7. RIGHT-UP 8170 and 7269 at 12:25 p.m.

CSX 8756 and 8854, 1:24 p.m., train number 8.

LEFT-'See-Thru' autorack. RIGHT-CSX 9027 and 586, 1:42 p.m., train number 9 today.

LEFT-CSX 586. RIGHT-Just-blossoming red spider lilies in our front yard.
