Sunday, October 19, 2014 at Union Station in Little Rock, AR. It was a beautiful day, chilly in the morning, 70s in the afternoon. There were 6 locomotive roadnames today: UP, NS, CN, CSXT, FXE and CP. Also have shots of a Fall red leaf, wasp, butterfly, CIRR 91274 ex-blue Rock Island boxcar, ICG 535578 boxcar, and a streetcar plus other freight cars. Locomotives: UP 1988, 5729, 6178 ex-SP, 1781, 1904, 9673, 4140, 4883, 3947, 8393, 3829, 6398 ex-SP. Former President Bill Clinton and other politicians had a rally in downtown North Little Rock in the historic Argenta District with their podium set up in the middle of the streetcar tracks so the streetcars were relagated to the Little Rock side of the Arkansas River for a few hours. The streetcar people wanted me to get pictures of the event, so I took a break from railfanning to get a couple of photos of that area.

Bush's whistle stop train in between Columbus, OH and Grand Blanc, Mich on September 26-27, 1992.  The 7810 operated as the second unit behind special painted Engine CSXT 1992.   However the classy POTUS Train did not carry Mr. Bush 41 to victory over Mr. Clinton in 1992."

I took a break from railfanning for the streetcar people to go to downtown North Little Rock in the historic Argenta District to get pictures of a political rally in front of the Argenta Drug Store, the oldest continuously operated drug store in it's original location west of the Mississippi River. The street and streetcar line were closed during the rally with the speakers on a platform on top of the streetcar tracks. This was about 1:30 p.m.

I'm sure you recognize the man speaking, former President Bill Clinton (now living in Harlem, New York and rarely seen here in Arkansas). There were lots of police and Secret Service people around. I was standing on a sidewalk a long way from the speakers and could look over the crowd. My 300mm lens does a good job zooming in. Anyway, the streetcars were only running across the river in Little Rock during this event and resumed their normal route after the event ended about 2 p.m.

Here's one of the police dogs, that happened to be near where I was standing. I didn't make any quick or suspicious moves. You can see the streetcar tracks.

During the speech I got a closeup of this wasp.

And here's a closeup of a black swallowtail, which is Oklahoma's state butterfly. Oklahoma borders Arkansas on the west. (thanks to Bill Pollard for the butterfly information)

A red Fall leaf on the sidewalk. Artistic.
