Trains at Union Station in Little Rock, Arkansas on Tuesday, December 9, 2014. After catching a few freights in the afternoon, including the Little Rock & Western, I went back to the station around midnight to get Amtrak's northbound Texas Eagle.


Little Rock & Western 1541 westbound toward Perry at 2:00 p.m. It's just coming off the UP's Baring Cross bridge over the Arkansas River after being in the UP yard.

CGRX 579164 CGB Consolidated Grain and Barge Co. hopper, very new only built this month, 12-14. There was a whole line of these on this train.


CGRX 579091. They ran very smoothly without any normal squeaks or noise, plus I could smell the new paint.

End of the long train. I assume these were empties heading for the grain-producing parts of the country.


BNSF 7166, 3:33 p.m. heading an empty oil train. Most of the loaded oil trains run on UP's directional-south line through Hoxie, Brinkley, Pine Bluff, Texarkana - the old Cotton Belt.

BNSF 7254. When there's 3 units in the lead, there's usually no dpu pusher.

NS 7235. I assume this is a former UP unit.


Jumping ahead now to 11:17 p.m., same location, northbound Amtrak Texas Eagle 22 arriving 13 minutes early.


Amtrak locomotive 67 leads 7-car Eagle tonight. When it arrives early, like it has a lot this summer and fall believe it or not, it waits here until the scheduled time to leave at 11:39 p.m.
