Trains in Brinkley, Arkansas on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 with a PBS crew doing a documentary on railroads in Arkansas. Plus a work crew at Union Station in Little Rock. I used my 1000 pixel-wide reduced resolution photos on this site. If you have trouble viewing or it takes too long, next time I'll create the smaller click-to-enlarge photos (300 pixels wide) page when I have this many photos so those who still have dialup or slow broadband and view easier. However, that conversion takes me another hour, so unless I have too many complaints about this page taking too long to view, I'll continue to use photos of this size unless I have lots more pictures. Let me know what you think: thundertrain@gmail.com
By the way, I deliberately took photos with other photographers in them since this shows the PBS documentary being made.

Included today:
1) UP 5133, 7434, 3832, 8617
2) AETN film crews
3) Museum interior

As soon as I drove up to the depot in Brinkley, this train passed with UP 5133 leading. I didn't have time to adjust my aperture.

Arkansas Educational Television Network (AETN) crew on left getting ready to photograph a train off the Brinkley Sub, which is the curved track to the right and comes from West Memphis and joins UP's Jonesboro Sub here at Brinkley. Museum Director Bill Sayger is walking to the right.

A train had taken the siding at Brinkley at 9:13 a.m. May 17.

UP 7434 on the 90 degree curve coming off the Brinkley Sub at 9:24 a.m. It's pulling tons  of baretables.

UP 7434 moving very slowly. I don't know what the speed restriction is on this curve, but I cold walk fast and keep up with the train. There was talk last year of straightening out this curve, but no work has been done and I don't know what UP will do. The AETN-PBS crew is filming. This railroad documentary will air in March 2012. The crew had written permission to be on UP's property.

Crossing US Highway 70. Whenever Interstate 40 is closed due to an accident or something, hundreds of cars and semi's are detoured through town on this highway. I-40 is about 2 miles north of the depot. Brinkley is halfway between Little Rock and Memphis in east Arkansas.

Baretables.

Look at all the cars backed up waiting for the train to pass. Even though trains from this curve travel slowly, other southbounds on the main line travel at track speed through here, which I believe is 59 mph.

The train parked on the Brinkley siding is leaving at 9:47 a.m.

9:48 a.m. The TV crew had written permission to be on UP's property.

9:51 a.m. UP 3832.

A dragon.

The train passed, then at 9:59 a.m. backed up to its original position north of town.

Inside the Brinkley Depot Museum. This depot served the Rock Island and Cotton Belt.

Old ticket office. I used to volunteer here for years, but have not been here in months.

Outside the museum.

Two trains. The one on the siding will move first. Not sure why.  It's now 11:00 a.m.

UP 8617, 11:03 a.m.

UP has excellent track here and roadbed.

UP 3832 leaving for the second time at 11:10 a.m.

UP 3832, 11:19 a.m.

At the river park in Little Rock now, 12:43 p.m.

Flowers.

UP track workers at Union Station at 2:13 p.m.

M.O.W. equipment on the Amtrak siding.
