Tuesday, July 12, 2011. I had a visitor from Texas, Matthew Dittert, who was on his way to visit a relative in another state. We went to Union Station, saw Union Pacific's Jenks shops with UP 4141, the Bush Library locomotive, and rode one of the streetcars. Here are a few photos. Mr. Dittert is a railfan like I am, and any railfan who passes through central Arkansas on I-30 or I-40, send me an email a few days in advance and I'll try to show you around as well.  (Ken Ziegenbein - thundertrain@gmail.com)

Matthew at Union Station on the Amtrak platform  in Little Rock at 5:46 p.m. Unfortunately, UP Maintenance Of Way personnel were working on the Baring Cross bridge, which meant no UP trains passing while we were here. But we did see a Little Rock & Western train.

Little Rock & Western 1542 and 103 heading for the UP yards on their tracks at 6:01 p.m.

It was a very hot day, 103 degrees, and humid as well.

Waiting for a streetcar at the North Little Rock Post Office stop, 7:43 p.m.

Matthew paying the $1 to ride.

Sunset taken from the streetcar as the streetcar (No.410) was crossing the Arkansas River on the Main Street Bridge at 7:54 p.m.

Another shot. The bridge in the background is the Broadway Bridge (US Highway 70).

The streetcar out the window is just coming off the Main Street Bridge and will turn left to head to the River Market. We will turn left and then go north across the same bridge.

On Main Street, North Little Rock, at 8:26 p.m. A ride around the entire 3.5 mile system takes about 35 minutes during the day.

We had just gotten off.
