UP 1983 was the rear DPU unit on the Kansas City to Pine Bluff, Arkansas mixed freight (MKCPB-12) on Monday, March 14, 2011 as it came through the Levy area of North Little Rock, Arkansas on the Van Buren Sub. Some of the scenes are of 1983 on the sharp curve under the Interstate 40 overpass, where it was stopped for over an hour waiting for signals. I also got a closeup of the remnants of graffiti that had been placed on the unit several weeks ago in another part of the country. Yes, you can still see parts of the graffiti, but whoever removed it did a pretty good job without damaging 1983's original paint.

MKCPB mixed freight from Kansas City to Pine Bluff, AR is about to pass over the West Pershing Blvd overpass in North Little Rock at 3:15 p.m. March 14. UP 1983, the Western Pacific heritage unit, is the rear DPU and I'm on Railroad Avenue, which dead ends here. I'm looking to the north. This is UP's Van Buren Sub, which goes from here, makes a sharp left under the I-40 overpass above the locomotive, and heads west and north for Van Buren, AR and then into Oklahoma. It was a drizzly, damp and chilly day with temperatures in the 40s.

UP 7605, 3:16  p.m. Note this time. A few minutes after it passed me here on Railroad Avenue, the train stopped here for crew change and signals, for over an hour. The 1983 was still too far away to see.

Cold drizzle and mist. Right after this, I decided to drive through town and try and find 1983 down the line somewhere (it was a long train).

It's now 4:22 p.m., one hour and 6 minutes after the head end of the train first crossed the Pershing Ave overpass. However, I did find the 1983 here on Burks Ave, which is Arkansas State Highway 176.Note how close the track is to the highway.

UP 1983, 4:23 p.m.

To the left of the UP emblem and on the emblem itself, you can still see the remnants of graffiti that was placed on this locomotive a few weeks ago in another part of the country. Whoever removed the graffiti did a good job without hurting the original 1983 paint, at least I think they did. Again note how close the track is to the highway.

Closeup of the former graffiti.

This is where the Van Buren Sub curves right, under the Interstate 40 overpass, and heads into the North Little Rock UP yards.

I drove to the crossing at W 22nd Street and got 1983 passing in front of me at 4:34 p.m.

Heading into the yard. UP 1982 and 1996 were also in the North Little Rock area at this time, on CARE/Operation Lifesaver trains.
