Like Little Rock, Amtrak's Southwest Chief stops here in the wee hours of the night.

August 23. BNSF yards at Greybull, Wyoming with BNSF 2024 and BN 1505, among others. The town is located to the right of the tracks.

August 28, 2008
at West Yellowstone, Montana, just outside Yellowstone National Park.
This former UP depot is now the Yellowstone Musuem. It has a great
dining car china display for the four railroads that served here - UP,
NP. CNW, CB&Q and Milsaukee Roads. To see photos of inside the

*** AUGUST 31, 1008 (Sunday) ***
August
31, 2008. On our way from Yellowstone to Lander, Wyoming, we saw this
monument to the men who made the crossties for the Chicago &
Northwestern. It was put up in 1946.
*** SEPTEMBER 1, 2008 (Monday) ***
September 1, 2008. Lander, Wyoming depot, former C&NW. No tracks remain. It is now used by the Chamber of Commerce.
I don't know which side of the depot the tracks were on.
*** SEPTEMBER 2, 2008 (Tuesday) ***
September 2, 2008. This abandoned UP line between Douglas and Lusk, Wyoming is close to their active line through Wyoming.
This pronghorn was across the abandoned tracks.
Yon can see the UP's main line in the distant left.
Part of the abandoned line was used for storage. The track ends a few hundred feet to my left. This is a cement tie train.

UP 6446, late afternoon September 2, between Lusk, Wyoming and Chadron, Nebraska on US 20. We are in Nebraska.

September 3, 2008. Chadron, Nebraska early in the morning. NEBKOTA 49 and 613 were in the yards.

Street in Alliance is conveniently built over the BNSF tracks and has a
nice, wide sidwwalk. Many BNSF coal trains cross under here.

On September 4, 2008,
I visited Union Pacific's Bailey Yards in North Platte, Nebraska and
had a tour of the yards and also went to the newly opened Golden Spike
