I
went to Magnolia, Texas on Tuesday morning, October 13, 2009, to get a
photo of an Operation Lifesaver train that ran between Spring and
Bryan, Texas, using UP Heritage 1989 (DRG unit) as one of two
locomotives. The short, 3-car train, had a locomotive at each end.
Seen are two more trains that morning, and some photos of the
restored Magnolia MoPac depot, now housing a historical society. The
Operation Lifesaver train arrived at 8:39 a.m. with several people
boarding, including law enforcement personnel. It was a cloudy, warm
morning. Magnolia is between Houston/Spring and College Station/Bryan
on UP lines. This is the first time I've ever been to the town.
Included today:
1) UP 6060, 7830, 8063, 4803, 1989
2) CN 2593
3) UP streamlined passenger cars Challenger, Cheyenne and Columbine
At 7:03 a.m., a northbound UP train arrived.
UP 6060 heads the grain train. Magnolia is amazingly busy auto traffic-wise at 7 a.m.
I opened up the lens a little to get this speeding effect.
This south/Houston bound train caught me off guard, but had a CN unit, No. 2593 and UP 7830. Time was 8:07 a.m.
UP 8063 was the DPU on this long mixed train.
People waiting to board the Operation Lifesaver train at 8:19 a.m.
Neat looking house across the tracks with the gray roof.
The train arrives at 8:39 a.m. and will stop on this crossing at Buddy Riley Blvd.
UP 4803 leads the train with UP 1989 on the rear. Of course, later today the 1989 will be in the front as the train returns.
Boarding.

Gaining speed through Magnolia.
Here's some shots of the Magnolia Missouri Pacific depot, moved across the road from its original location.

Saw these cows on my way out of Magnolia.
