New ties had been put on UP's Smithville Sub between Smithville and Sealy, Texas, including these in New Ulm. Taken October 15.

Old ties on the lot next to the tracks in New Ulm.

Looking east from the road crossing in New Ulm toward Sealy and Houston. I used a strong zoom lens, which exaggerates the depth of the valley and curvature of the track. Like all such pictures, the tracks look worse than they are.

A north/west bound train approaches at 9:21 a.m. Oct 15.

This was a stack train.

Looking into the sun, UP 7377 crosses .... street at 9:24 a.m.

UP 3798.

On Sunday, October 16, UP's Katy Local zips across a private crossing next to New Ulm Fireman's Park at 3:12 p.m. headed by GATX 2609. It is headed east.

Only a 3-car train.

Now I'm in Sealy with a fellow railfan who lives in this area. This UP train, headed by UP 8580, is getting on the Smithville Sub and heading west toward Smithville and points west. I was told is was the IEWLG, the Englewood Yard Houston to Long Beach, California stack train. It got to this point by using trackage rights over BNSF's Galveston Sub. It is now 5:46 p.m.

The tracks in the foreground connect from the BNSF to UP's Smithville Sub.

NS 9745 and the Santa Fe Freight Depot. Amtrak used to run here until 1981. Brenham is a 'quiet zone' city.

Crossing the former SP line near Peabody Street. This SP line now handles a BNSF local once in a while to haul milk to the Blue Bell Ice Cream plant.
